We created a mood board with images representing the genre of
horror we are doing, existing films that have similar themes to our movie, old Christian
views on disfigurement, old folk tales an history of disfigurement / possession
cases, and images depicting our ideas for the movie.
The genre of horror we are
doing is religious and satanic so to represent this we have used images such as
the Christian cross, a possessed girl and red eyes.
We included existing movies
such as ‘The Possession’, ‘The Exorcist’, ‘The Omen’, ‘Insidious’, ‘Sinister’
and ‘Paranormal Activity’.
Old Christian views of disfigurement are negative,
in the past it was seen as unnatural and influenced by negative forces such as
demons and the devil. Disfigured family members were often rejected by the
family, hidden way or brutally punished by torture or even death. Images we
found to represent this include the girl who is possessed in ‘The Exorcist’, the
Devil and Jesus arm wrestling to show connotations of Good vs Evil, red eyes as
red is often scene as the colour of the Devil and is unnatural in humans, an
upside down cross and also a picture of a noose to represent punishment.
We
found two images of old drawings which represent history and folk tales of
disfigurement / possession.
All of these images depict our group ideas for the
movie but to more directly link images to our trailer we used an image of an
isolated girl (our protagonist), a happy family of a mother, father and
daughter (as this is what our family will consist of), red eyes (which will be
used to represent the possession), Christian cross (as this is religion we are
using), and an image of a girl with an evil imaginary friend. We researched
cases of possession and two we found are the following;
'Demonic Possession' Of Mother & Her 3 Children Saw 'Boy
Walk Backwards Up The Wall In Home Haunted By 200 Spirits' A mother and her three children lived in a house which was
supposedly haunted by two hundred spirits. They ended up getting possessed and it
is said that one boy walked up a wall backwards in front of child services.
The Perron Family The family moved into the house in 1971 and not long after
the mother saw a spectre of an old woman hung by the neck from her bedroom
ceiling, but she wasn’t actually there. Mysterious things would happen like
doors opening and slamming shut by themselves. Later on they found out that a
witch sacrificed her child to Satan and then hung herself. Many people then
died in this house before the family moved in. This case was used as
inspiration for the popular horror film ‘The Conjuring’. We included two family
photos of the Perron family and the family photo of the family in the film.
